Volume I; Issue 2
Special Report:
Conservation Easements

Letters to the Editor

I received the February/March issue of “Standing Ground” yesterday at 3PM. This was VERY timely since TxDoT was giving a public presentation/having the first of three hearings on “La Entrada” at 6PM at the local high school.

As we used to say in the Navy “It is easier to ask forgiveness than to get permission.” I therefore wish to ask forgiveness for not getting your permission first before making 50 copies of the centerfold special report “The Trans Texas Corridor & NAFTA Super Highway,” but I just didn’t have time.

I thought 50 copies would be adequate. Boy was I surprised to see almost 350 people in attendance only one of whom was in favor of the “La Entrada”

project. Wish I could have had more than 50 copies to hand out.

Everyone who wanted to could speak for up to ten minutes. Thanks to your special report I was able to provide not only highlights of your special report but a couple of sentences on what “Stewards of the Range” stood for as well.

I stressed the “no compete” clause of the CINTRA contract, the size of the superhighway, the fact that the “KC Smartport” would be Mexican Sovereignty which is really my number one concern as a retired Navy Officer and the “Quick Take” provisions regarding local property. That REALLY got the crowd’s attention.

I also provided them what I considered the three key websites (from your list) from which they could get additional information and references:
www.stewards.us ; www.spp.gov ; and
www.nascocorridor.com .

Again, my apologies for not first getting permission to copy that special report. I really thought it was important to get it out to people in the audience. Thanks for understanding.

You don’t need our forgiveness, but you have our gratitude! Thanks for getting this critical information into the right hands.

Thank you for doing this. Thank you for stepping into the void left by America’s press and filling it with courage and better writing than I ever read in the rags calling themselves newspapers today. I think you’re on the front edge of a communications revolution that has left the so-called media at the train station.

Keep going. Keep going. You have our support out here.

Russ McAfee
Alvin, Texas

Thanks for all your support Russ, and thanks always for the great information you send our way.

I am so impressed by the info you have shared in your recent letter, especially the Standing Ground insert by David Howard, Marty McElhaney and Dan Byfield. I wish every American could read that. You talk about a “Take Over” – this exceeds them all. I am 88 years of age – in excellent health, and I’m not in any frame of mind to give up a fight to postpone this horrendous plan –but to stop it permanently. If I’m not mistaken, I think this is what you all have in mind as well!! Would it be possible to get 5 copies of the Special Report and would you keep us advised as how to pray for any special needs.

Evelyn Gustafson
Cleburne, Texas

The copies are in the mail and thanks so much for the prayers. Just keep them coming at your convenience. They are greatly appreciated.
We were stunned after reading your Special Report – the Trans Texas Corridor and NAFTA Super Highway. You did a great job of researching. We have sent letters to our Congressman and two Senator’s asking them to look into this. Thanks for keeping us informed.

Clinton and Virginia Forloine
Napa, California

Thanks for keeping the heat on our elected officials who have allowed this project to go forward and jeopardize our national sovereignty. Let us know their response.

There is a lot of good information in this issue. The Trans Texas Corridor and NAFTA Superhighway is being fought by the Conservative Caucus, Eagle Forum, and American Policy Center. Perhaps Stewards of the Range and Partners should join them. The more people who know about this the better we can fight.

Juanita L. Alexander
Albuquerque, New Mexico

You are so right, and that is why we are co-sponsors of this year’s Freedom 21 conference July 19th-21st in Dallas, Texas (see training session on page 32). Hopefully, we will see you there.

How about a “short list” of things local landowners can do to counter the tree-hugger groups?

Great idea. Check out the “Points of Strategy” article on page 8 and see if this is what you are looking for.

Your premier issue of Standing Ground provided timely and usable information. The instructional quality for activists was excellent. The Trans Texas Corridor (TTC) and NAFTA Superhighway section should be forwarded to U.S. Congressmen by readers to demonstrate to them that the NAFTA highways are understood as a modern Trojan horse, a dangerous “gift” prying open America’s gates, undermining private property rights, our independent economy, national security, and American political independence.

The aim is to create a North American Union of these three nations patterned after the European Union (EU) model. This intention was admitted by former Mexican President Vicente Fox.

“Eventually our long-range objective is to establish with the United States, but also with Canada, our other regional partner, an ensemble of connections and institutions similar to those created by the European Union,” stated the then Mexican President Vicente Fox during his “new global agenda” speech to Club XXI in Madrid, Spain, May 16, 2002.

Not only should we oppose these integrating NAFTA corridors, but also the plan behind them, that being the 1,700 pages of NAFTA. We should urge Congress to withdraw the USA from NAFTA.

Well said, and thanks for sending in President Fox’s revealing quote.

Thank you for the new issue of Standing Ground. I have read it from cover to cover and I think it is going to be a tremendous success. I see some very knowledgeable folks who can put these ideas in a form that can be used. I have ordered 10 copies to distribute here in Nevada county California. The name is CABPRO a group dedicated to helping private individuals with county problems.

I see a lot of ability in Mr. Fred Grant. I saw some of the same in a Mr. Walley of Paragon, who had a heart attack, who had to curtail some of his activities.

To give you a bit of time line, I am in the statistical range of being of a short life! I will be 91 in April. For me life has not been dull. I am a military Navy retiree, as well as being a retired Fire Alarm Superintendent from city of Long Beach California. Thanks for being here for the US Citizens you represent.

Thank you for making it possible for us to fight for the liberty and property American’s are privileged to enjoy.

A splendid issue, especially info on local property rights defenses (eg. “How Coordination Plans Work). Not so interested in horror stories, except when the government loses. Also, issue of North American Union and giant highway to serfdom is overpowering. Those directly threatened with loss of their property ought to (primarily) be fighting this. I wouldn’t have time for real life if I were to be fighting these sorts of battles continuously. Also, for your info, see data on Inyo County, California’s suit against the dept of the interior for illegally closing R5-2477 roads.

High praise from an internationally renowned scientist. Thanks Sandy!

Thank you for your Feb. & March 2007 issue.

Some of this skullduggery I had read about before and alerted Senator Levin of Michigan. He said he would look into it when it came before the Senate.

This is treason to say the least, as all the meetings were secret. This must be stopped. It will destroy too much farmland, homes, businesses and ranchers. It does nothing for the land and homes it destroys. Many will be bankrupt.

It all started by persons who do not care about our Nation, they want to give it away to Foreign Nations and get rich. It’s time they all think about the U.S. Citizens, who have lost their jobs and will continue to do so.

Our Founding Fathers were men of vision and formed a Government to protect its people for all generations. They got rid of the British under President Washington. President Lincoln during the Civil War made sure we were one Nation. Now you want to cut it in half and destroy our Nation. It must stop Now!! No way – if you are so anxious to give our Nation to China and Mexico, then move there.

Great read! Thank you so much for doing what needs to be done. Too bad we can’t multiply you by one million.

Dan Harshbarger

I read every word! This is a wonderful publication! Thank you for working so hard for the property owners in the country.

Marian King

Thank you for giving me hope.

And on a more personal note …

Dear Dan,

Your inaugural copy of Standing Ground came today. And while I have not read it in it’s entirety, I am moved to offer my profound thanks for the great work that you do. I can’t imagine how you can have a career based on these stands you’ve taken over the years for the rights of individuals. I would think the powers that be would be hot on your tail to beat you into nothingness to the full extent that they can get away with it under the color of law. You have my undying gratitude for your sacrifices in pursuing this mission.

Tom Meranda
Lebanon, Indiana

Thanks Tom, but I’m just a small part of it. It’s people like Margaret whose family has fought this fight for two decades, Fred who is the genius behind our local movement, David who understands this issue better than any of us, and Marty who can talk to anyone and write the greatest stories around. It’s everyone pulling together. Now, it’s you.

Dear Margaret,

I had the privilege of hearing your father, Wayne Hage, speak at a patriot rally in Seattle, Washington on September 9th, 1994. I purchased an audiotape of that speech in which he says that all wealth comes from the land. I still listen to that tape because it keeps me on track as to what is happening to our country.

Nationalization of our land is accelerating as I write this letter. Especially when you consider the Trans Texas Corridor and the NAFTA Super Highway. This is nothing short of war on the American People by our government. It is the agenda to control everyone on this planet from birth to death. We will be the slave caretakers for the totalitarian rulers.

As Wayne states it so clearly in his brilliant 1994 speech, “People will be considered a commodity to be managed just like any other resource.” Lets pray for the wisdom and courage that will help Stewards of the Range to continue “Standing Ground.” It is a just cause for future generations.
